New York City, 1922. Nicolás Caraveo, a 17-year-old transgender boy from Wisconsin, has no interest New York glamor. Moving to the city is about establishing himself as a young professional. The sort of man his family can depend on

He settles into a West Egg cottage with the help of his cousin, Daisy Fabrega. A darling of society. she lives with a wealthy boyfriend, the best clothes, and a new name - "Daisy Fay." She has erased all signs of her Latina heritage, and now passes seamlessly as White.

Adding to the chaos is Nick's neighbor - Jay Gatsby. Eccentric Gatsby throws parties like no one else, both dazzling and terrifying. At one of these parties, Nick learns that the spectacle is all for the benefit of impressing a girl from Jay’s past—Daisy.

And he learns something else: Jay is also Transgender.

As Nick sinks deeper into the glittery culture of decadence, he spends more time with Jay, aiming to rekindle lost love. But feelings grow more complicated when Nick finds himself falling for Jay's openness, idealism, and unfounded faith in the American Dream.
